To celebrate the reordering of our sanctuary we invited the whole town to an official opening ceremony.
This is what the interior looked like once work was complete. |
There were displays of the many activities taking place in and around the church. Some by outside groups... |
... and others by the Church itself. |
Balloons were got ready for a mass release later. |
The slight rain didn't seem to have put off the waiting crowd outside. |
Our Minister, John, introduced and thanked some of the people who had helped the whole scheme to take place. Here we see the chair of the listed building planning committee. Also present were the architect's representative, our structural engineer, the building contractor, representatives from North Herts DC and many others. |
Local resident and near neighbour, Richard Whitmore, spoke briefly and then cut the ceremonial ribbon. |
Once inside there was a real crush of people looking at the displays, meeting old friends and renewing acquaintances. |
Richard introduced a presentation of a historic amateur film called The Story of Tilehouse Street for which he had written a new commentary. The film proved so popular that it had to be shown four times during the afternoon. |
The afternoon ended with a triumphant release of the balloons. |
